So this is about fandom triggers. What are fandom triggers, you ask? Well, every fandom has certain quotes, pictures, songs, etc. that trigger certain emotional reactions from the fans. For example: if you go up to a Doctor Who fan and say "I don't want to go", you will leave them in a sobbing mess.
Most of these triggers tend to bring out the sobbing hysterical side of the fans, but there are some that bring out joy or fear or anger or something.
Since this is the Blog of Eternal Boredom, I am just going to list a few of the ones I see the most (and some of my personal favorites).
DOCTOR WHO

Doomsday- wall |
DOCTOR WHO- "Don't blink."
Terror... From the episode "Blink" which features one of the most terrifying (and iconic) monsters in Doctor Who: the Weeping Angels. You can't fully appreciate how actually terrifying these things are until you watch the show, but yeesh, they'll at least make you jump if not run out of the room screaming.
SUPERNATURAL- "Dad's on a hunting trip... and he hasn't been home in a few days."
Varies. Often sad... The quote that started it all. Fans bring it up all the time out of context, replacing "hunting trip" or "dad" or something with something else to fit the situation. But it always gets an emotion response out of fans.
SHERLOCK

The fall |
HARRY POTTER- "Always."
Sad... Say this to a Potterhead and they'll just break down in front of you. "SNAAAAAAAAPE!!!" or something along those lines. They also like to use this out of context when asked like if they'll love Harry Potter forevermore... "always".
DOCTOR WHO- "Raggedy man... goodbye!"
Sad... A pretty recent tragedy. Whovians are still getting over it. The loss of the most recent companion, Amy Pond. Those were her final words, so you can see why they might be a bit emotionally scarring to one who is emotionally invested in the show.

SHERLOCK- "The name's Sherlock Holmes and the address in 221B Baker Street."
Joy... it's the first time we hear his name and as a bonus, we hear the iconic address. And as another bonus, he winks at the end of it. It just makes us fangirls oh so happy! It's very nice to use in fan-made trailers and such.
HARRY POTTER- "Yer a wizard, Harry."
Yeah. I probably don't have to explain this one very much. I don't think there's a single person on this planet who doesn't know this quote. The big reveal! The quote that puts everything into action! Potterheads (and even people who are just kind of into pop culture) like to change wizard for something else all the time, like "yer a (insert whatever pertains to situation), Harry".
DOCTOR WHO- "If it's my last chance to say it... Rose Tyler--"
Sad... to continue the tragedy of the wall (listed above), the darn episode extends the sadness to this scene where the Doctor and Rose are saying their final goodbyes. You KNOW the Doctor is about to tell her he loves her, but then the holograph cuts out just before he does and that's it. They will never see each other again. So, yeah. You can see why this might be upsetting to Whovians.
MERLIN- "In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy. His name... Merlin."
Excitement... this is at the opening of every episode. You'll have it memorized after like 3 or 4 episodes. And if you become a fan, you'll get excited whenever you hear it and quote it along with the voice every time it comes on. You might even say the little "whoosh" in between the "name" and "Merlin". I do.
LIZZIE BENNET DIARIES- "Excuse me, Lizzie."
Excitement/frustration... this quote is said twice in the entire series. And both times is at the end of an episode, leaving you hanging. They both mark the start of Darcy Day and Dizzie Day (you'll have to refer to my previous blog post here to understand those references). When Darcy walks in and says that line you get all excited, but then the episode ends and you get all mad, basically to sum up.
SUPERNATURAL- "Yesterday was Tuesday, but today is Tuesday too!"
Amusement... a very famous episode where one of the characters gets stuck in a time loop, kind of like Groundhog Day. Supernaturalists like to use this quote every Tuesday just because, but especially since the show actually airs on Tuesday.
Wow I'm really far behind.
